Eyes Wide Open

Dr. Charles was working late in his office that evening, having sent his aides home. The only other person present was his colleague, Sarah, whom he secretly harbored feelings for. Sarah, five years his junior, shared the same unspoken affection. She was strikingly beautiful, with bright green eyes, blond hair, and an ethereal presence.

That night, Sarah, working on the floor above Charles, decided to visit him. As she approached his office, she noticed a shadow in the dark corridor and heard faint whispers. Curiosity piqued, she moved closer to investigate, passing Charles’ closed door. The corridor grew colder, her breath visible in the chilly air.

Hesitantly, she whispered, “Hello! Is someone in there?” not expecting a response but compelled to explore further. Drawn to a door farther down the hallway, she felt an eerie magnetism pulling her closer.

Just five steps from the door, it creaked open slightly, revealing a cacophony of indistinct voices and whispers. As she pushed the door open, the room fell eerily silent. The office lights, usually triggered by motion, remained off. Disoriented in the darkness, Sarah moved towards the window, seeking some external light.

As she peered outside, a chilling sensation swept over her. Turning sharply, she saw a shadowy figure retreat into the darkness above, like dissipating smoke. She tried to scream, but no sound emerged.
